Thankful for tips from other reviewers - Especially these:, July 19, 2013

Softclaws are working great for us due in large part to the collection of tips from reading other reviews. Such as ...

1. trimming the cat's claws awhile before beginning with the Softclaws
2. trimming the back of the Softclaw tip slightly so the cat's nails can still retract a bit
3. using bright color Softclaw to tell when a tip has fallen off
4. not filling the Softclaw tip completely with glue so the glue doesn't overflow into cat's fur
5. setting up all trimmed and glued Softclaw tips all at once then putting them on the cat's nails all at once.

My cat doesn't mind the Softclaws and is still able to knead at everything without damaging my furniture. I use the Softclaws on her her 4 primary nails on each front paw. I replace the ones that have fallen off about every 2 weeks.

Good but not great, August 5, 2010
This review is from: Soft Claws for Cats - CLS (Cleat Lock System), Size Medium, Color Red (Misc.)
I have three cats and moved in with my boyfriend three months ago. He has nice furniture and I was concerned about my cats clawing it up. I bought the Soft Claws instead of de-clawing my cats. I'm happy with them so far, but have learned a few things in the few months I have used them.

1. Do not over fill the nail cap. On my first attempt of placing a Soft Claw on one of my cats, I put too much in the nail, which got all over my cats paw and caused her to clean it to the point where she irritated the her paw.

2. Some cats do better with the Soft Paws than others. My three cats will tolerate me putting on the claws but immediately afterward they slink off and clean their paws and try to rip them off, luckily they have not been successful pulling them off in the first day. I will find the red nails around the house as they pull them off (one cat more often than the other two)

3. Putting the nails on is no worse than cutting their nails. If your cat hates having his/her nails cut, they will hate you putting the Soft Claws on. If they don't their pedicure, they will not mind you placing these decorative tips on.

All in all I am happy with this product, it can be pricey to maintain, and does takes time to maintain them(replacing them as they fall off or are torn off), but it's much better than the alternative. I'm also happy to say that the nice furniture has not been scratched yet.

I don't have a problem with my 2 cats scratching my leather furniture. I have a post next to my bed and my couch and also a cat tree in the living room. I have never caught them scratching a piece of furniture; however, I have seen scratches on top of my leather ottoman from the cats jumping off of it while they're playing. I assume they're digging into with their back claws as they jump. That is the reason I ordered these, it's a great alternative to getting the cats declawed. It's a very novel idea and I must say as horrible as it sounds, it was hilarious when my 6 month old lunged at my jeans and slipped right down since she can no longer use her claws!

The reason I'm giving it only 4 stars is that for the price you should really get more of these, I say 100. I have two cats and this is going to get pretty expensive.
